Setting up a Payment Gateway

Setting up a payment gateway is one of the most crucial steps in building an E-commerce website.  Choosing the right payment gateway can make it easy for your customers to pay for your products or services securely.  Zeald offers a number of supported gateways you can choose from.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Most payment gateways will require an Electronic Merchant Account, which you need to setup with your bank.  This is different from the merchant account you use with your EFTPos. You may contact your bank for further details.

Payment Express

Payment Express, or Direct Payment Solutions (DPS) is the only certified gateway to have seamless connectivity for settlement into every New Zealand bank, most major banks in Australia, and selected banks in the UK, USA, Singapore and Pacific Islands.  Zeald also has a long relationship with Payment Express as a premium partner, hence, our clients can have favourable rates tailored to suit a range of needs and high levels of service.  It’s also very easy to setup!

To learn how you can purchase a Payment Express plan and get it set up on your website, refer to this article.

Paypal

If you’re processing a small volume of orders (e.g. handcrafted items that are made to order), Paypal may be a good option.  Here are a few of its features:

  • No minimum montly fee.  However, they charge up to 3.4% of the transaction cost +0.45 NZD per transaction.
  • No merchant account required.

The only setback with using PayPal as a payment gateway is that it requires customers to create a PayPal account as well during the order, which may reduce conversion rates.

If you would like to know how to set up PayPal on your website, click on one of the links below:

Zest– For Paypal merchant accounts, it is important not to include the Identity Token when copying and pasting your ID token to the Payment Data Transfer (PDT) Identifer field on your Merchant PayPal information.

Woocommerce – This will require a plugin.  Contact our support team to have it setup on your website.

Shopify – Paypal is one of Shopify’s default payment gateways.  Once you create a Shopify store, you’re setup with a Paypal Express Checkout account with the email you used to put up a Shopify store.  As soon as you receive your first order through Paypal Express Checkout, Paypal will send you an email with a link and instructions on how to complete your PayPal account setup so you can claim your funds.

Unsupported payment gateways

Zeald may attempt to support the most widely used payment gateways. However, we may not be able to support all of them out of the box.  If you have a specific requirement for a specific payment gateway, you can contact us for a customisation quote.  However, we may not always recommend it due to the possible cost of the customisation it may entail.  For this reason, we recommend one of our supported gateways listed above.
