Magento is an open-source platform developed by Varian Inc. with help from volunteers. It is created specifically for ecommerce, and offers more functionality compared to other platforms supported by Zeald. This platform is written in PHP.
STRENGTHS
- Highly flexible and scalable - Magento can support an extensive inventory, but you can scale it down depending on your hosting needs. It also allows you to create a unique transaction experience for your website.
- More features outside the box - Unlike Woocommerce and Shopify, Magento has, by default, have a number of advanced tools needed to run an ecommerce website. This includes adding multiple stores to one website, advanced inventory support, and advanced pricing.
WEAKNESSES
- As Magento is a large and complex platform, it will require a higher end hosting, which will cost more than the other platforms supported by Zeald.
- Its content management system is not as user friendly as WordPress, Zest or Shopify.
RECOMMENDED FOR
Magento is highly recommended for medium-large ecommerce sites, or businesses wanting to ramp up their websites without the need to change platforms.
